PSTAR Online Course
The PSTAR exam must be passed by all student pilots, military and certain foreign licenced applicants seeking a Canadian PPL (PSTAR refers to "Student Pilot Permit or Private Pilot Licence for Foreign and Military Applicants, Aviation Regulation Examination"). This online course is designed to assist you in preparing for the PSTAR exam.
The PSTAR exam is somewhat unusual in the sense that Transport Canada makes the actual, current PSTAR exam questions and answers publicly available. We have included all current PSTAR questions in sequence and have formatted the questions such that you must achieve the correct response for each question prior to moving on to the next successive question. Those completing this PSTAR course will have an excellent opportunity to ensure that they are ready to sit the actual exam, which can be taken at any Transport Canada regional office or at authorized flight training units. The PSTAR exam consists of 50 questions selected from the Transport Canada PSTAR database of approximately 200 questions, and the minimum passing score is 90 percent.
Prior to starting this course, you should obtain our training text Private Pilot and Recreational Pilot Ground School Course, most current edition and review the following subjects:
After reviewing the above subjects, commence this course, completing the questions in sequence. Keep track of any questions you do not answer correctly so that you can review the appropriate background subjects and improve on any weak areas. The correct answer for each PSTAR question has been assigned a cross reference number to the appropriate background subject from our training text. For example, if a question has the reference PRP GSC s. 7.24, this means that the applicable subject matter for the particular question can be found at Section 7.24 (Medical Facts) of our Private Pilot and Recrational Pilot Ground School Course textbook, current edition.
For the purposes of both aviation safety and your competence as a pilot, DO NOT prepare for the PSTAR exam based exclusively on rote recognition of the PSTAR questions and answers provided in this course: take the necessary time to properly study and learn the applicable background subjects.
The meanings for any abbreviations used in the PSTAR questions will be found in our ground school training text.
Transport Canada PSTAR questions in this online course are sourced from the Transport Canada publication Student Pilot Permit or Private Pilot Licence for Foreign and Military Applicants, Aviation Regulations - TP 11919 Seventh Edition, February 2021.
